Project Management, an often overlooked role, can make or break a project and save a company time and money. The three main areas of responsibility for every project manager are to administer the scheduling, cost, and quality of project tasks. Often the execution of these responsibilities is hindered by poor communication between the Project Manager and project team, vendors, and stakeholders. Keeping everyone aware of project status, including problems and newly discovered risks is critical to success. Shared knowledge and open communication by all parties at the start of a project helps to prevent extra cost and effort and, in some cases, incites the termination of a project headed in the wrong direction.
Schedule Acceleration typically results in higher cost and/or lesser quality of the deliverable.
Budget Decreases typically result in less quality and/or potential adverse affect to the schedule.
Quality Increases result in higher budget and/or longer schedule.
Risk Management is constantly evaluated especially when project changes are proposed.
Solution Due Diligence
From the start, IT Acceleration project managers routinely ask the following questions:
- Why is this project being considered?
- What is the best solution?
- Does it meet the obligations of the company?
- Does this solution make sense for the business?
Playing devil's advocate and performing business and technical due diligence will expose any weaknesses before the project commences. There may be a way to provide for a solution from resources already in house, without the need to incur new project expenses.
Once the need is validated, vendor research and validation is critical to determine the best provider for the product and service. Sometimes cost is not the compelling factor when determining a solution—service is a key component after a solution has been implemented.
Once completed, the technical due diligence of a suggested solution will lessen the risk of a failed implementation or acceptance of a given product or service.
A successful implementation of a product or service will require the time to plan for its deployment. Planning is typically where the majority of time is spent in order to reduce the implementation effort and risks of unmet expectations. Our experience managing projects include simple short-term projects, such as workstation rollouts, to complex projects, such as office relocations and mergers and acquisitions.
Project Oversight
Working as the client's liaison with vendors, IT Acceleration provides clients with a better understanding of their projects and keeps vendors accountable for deliverables. Many non-technical stakeholders can not clearly understand the techno-babble and many vendors are not capable of communicating to non-technical clients. IT Acceleration makes sense of it all and works on behalf of the client to ensure their project is being executed correctly and client expectations are being met.
